Uganda Premier League side Vipers SC have unveiled Brazilian Roberto Luiz Bianchi Pelliser as the new head coach.
Bianchi Beto, as commonly known, has been unveiled at St Mary’s Stadium in Kitende on Tuesday.
The Spaniard who was born in Brazil, joins on a two-year deal, replacing Roberto Oliveira who recently joined Tanzanian side Simba SC.
“We received a lot of applications from within and outside Uganda, and we had to screen them thoroughly before settling for Beto,” Vipers president Lawrence Mulindwa said.
“We looked for a coach with vast experience, with good style, and one that can give us good football.
“It wasn’t a matter of hand picking, we have a yard stick and we have some parameters that had to be followed to have a substantial coach to guide us in different competitions.”
Beto is a travelled gaffer and has had stints in most corners of the World including in Africa where he was the head coach of Angola in 2017.
He has coached Zamora (Spain), Pro Duta (Indonesia), Shabab (Jordan), Montegnée (Belgium), Petro Luanda (Angola), Kazma (Kuwait).
His last stint was in Angola with Interclube.
It’s a timely appointment for Vipers who will be playing in CAF Champions League starting next month.
Vipers Mean Business
Vipers went into the league break with 27 points, third behind BUL and leaders KCCA (29).
Much as they will like to defend the league title, but Beto’s main task will be to help the side compete on the continent.
The Venoms are pitted against Horoya (Guinea), Raja Casablanca (Morocco) and Simba (Tanzania).
By his CV, Beto is very experienced and is a good fit for Vipers who will be competing in CAF groups for the very first time.
They started beefing up their roster before the Coach’s arrival, with Karim Ndugwa and Martin Kizza the latest arrivals.
Mulindwa said that he wanted a coach who can play good football, and by the fact that the new gaffer has Spanish and Brazilian decency, it just can’t get any better.
