Southampton Football Academy and well-wishers have donated an assortment of sport equipment to the Ugandan communities.
This donation is through Rhino Athletics Club and Sports Uganda Limited UK meant to boost “The Best Barefoot league in the world (TBBFL)”.
The donated sports gear includes playing boots, jerseys (shirts and shorts), sockings, shin-guards and others.
The sports gear was contributed by various members under the Southampton Academy headed by coach Andy who appreciated everyone who made a modest contribution.
“I want to thank the people who have managed to organize the sports equipment for Uganda. May God bless you” coach Andy stated.
The equipment is still in the United Kingdom and will soon be packaged for shipment to Uganda in a fortnight time.
Hudson Kirabo, the Logistics and conservation manager at Rhino Athletics is humbled by this contribution.
“The donation of sport equipment from Southampton Academy and well-wishers is very much welcome. This is a great boost to sports development in Uganda and will help immensely to spark off the long-awaited The Best Barefoot League in the world (TBBFL)” Kirabo noted.
These will be distributed to the different hubs which Rhino Atheltic Club closely associates with include; Motion Youth (Kampala), Golden Impact (Mukon), Adjumani, Iganga, Kumi, Mbale, Lugazi and Gulu.
Rhino Athletics Club is also at the fore of promoting traditional African Sports and Games in Uganda.
These games include; Omweso, Okwepena, Oware, Morabaraba, rope skipping (to improve outcomes for overall cardiovascular health), among others.
They have also upped the conservation strategy after forging the latest partnership with Lukango Tree Conservancy.
Programs as plogging, waste clearance, setting up nurseries for seedlings in decompostible containers and growing native species at each space are being promoted.
Sports Uganda Ltd UK organization has provided a number of education bursaries to the different hubs.
Lugazi Hub received 25 full bursaries at St. Andrews secondary school for playing football and 4 full bursaries at Jinja Progressive School.
