At the start of the season, Creighton Bluejays were tipped to top the Big East Conference of the NCAA.

The Bluejays had won six games on the bounce at the time, caped by victories against Texas Tech and Arkansas. However, they suffered a six-game slide and the conversation faded.

What was never in doubt is that the Bluejays would bounce back after all the losses to Arizona and Texas were close.

Creighton’s conference play started with a 69-58 defeat to Marquette but wins over lowly Butler, DePaul and Seton Hall coupled with defeats to Xavier and Connecticut left them reeling at 3-3 in conference play.

The Bluejays have since put together a seven-game winning streak with Arthur Kaluma starting all games and logging 30 minutes a game.

“I personally knew we are a good team and realized we were only going through a rough patch. So I wasn’t really too worried about us losing those games when we were going through it,” Kaluma said after the win over Butler.

“I have got a great team around me so it was only a matter of time,” he added.

The Silverbacks’ power forward has averaged 11.8 points and 6.6 rebounds during that stretch.

Kaluma scored a game-high 20 points to go with 9 rebounds against the strongest opponents (Xavier) during that stretch.

Creighton’s seven-game winning streak has seen them enter the Top 25, now ranking at number 23 with an overall record of 16-8. They are one of the two schools in the Top 25 games that have lost 8 games.

With seven games to the end of the regular season, the Bluejays who are fourth in the Big East will continue their pursuit of the conference title starting with Connecticut on Saturday, February 11 at 10:00pm (EAT).

Third and second-placed Providence and Marquette are probably the toughest conference fixtures of the remaining seven fixtures.
