The Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) has chosen Egypt as the country where to host next month’s Afcon 2023 qualifier against Tanzania.
Uganda host neighbours Tanzania on March 20 in a group F clash but have no certified stadium at the moment to host a match of such magnitude according to CAF.
While appearing on NTV last week, Fufa President Moses Magogo confirmed the games starting with one against Taifa Stars will be played away from home before revealing which nations could offer hosting rights.
“In this case (of having no certified stadium), we play games away from home,” he stated.
“We are considering countries like Zambia, Malawi or Egypt because they are the nearest that we can talk about. Amongst our immediate neighbours, none of them has a stadium apart from Tanzania that we play against so technically we can use their home.”
Now Kawowo Sports understands that Egypt has been chosen by the FA as the alternative and a statement on the matter will soon be made public according to an anonymous source close to the Mengo establishment.
Egypt has several Caf and Fifa certified stadiums to host Category One competitions and it remains to be seen which one accommodate the Cranes.
