The capacity of the Hip-hop machine that churns new likable acts every now and then for the Ugandan industry is… inexhaustible. We have yet another rapper that will predictably be right in our faces and all over the game in a very short time to come.
Call it prophetic, it’s facts out here with Kakooza Zaidan alias Xydan di Rapper. Born 23rd March 1999 in Kawempe Mbogo, they later moved to Nakasozi Buddo along Masaka Road where he started his career as a rapper. He moved through a couple of schools like a worst behaviour from nursery, primary and high school. He was always a pretty popular kid with the chicks in high school because of his abilities to rap and speak fluent native English like his idols he watched over TV.
He was humble too at the same time and barely had trouble with the principals on top on ducking and swerving past HIV. He is currently pursuing a Diploma in Journalism and Mass Communication at YMCA Comprehensive Institute Wandegeya Branch and he actually is, a pro at videography and presentation.
He grew up listening to pop/rhythm and blues music, rock and roll and reggae since his dad played it so often at home. He did eventually develop a lot of interest in rap music after hearing his brother rap and hip-hop music booming from his speakers through the ventilators, for most of the time he was at home in the boys’ quarters. He listened to Lil Wayne, T.I, Jay Z and then Eminem in this kind of manner and he claims the latter made him feel like he can rap too because he made it look so easy.
He recorded his first single at 14 years of age and keeps getting better at each song he puts out ever since then. He has never stopped to look back at any moment amidst what all the naysayers said about him being an English rapper yet English rapping could never sell in the country. With time, he became a singer too, drawing inspiration from his idols Micheal Jackson, Chris Brown and Usher.
To date, he has recorded and put out one mixtape called ‘No fucks given’ and an EP ‘So Appalled’ ft L_Steel and a couple of singles along with those. Recently, he dropped a new mixtape entitled ‘A block away from hell’ which he says will share a lot of his dark memories and fears in addition to showcasing his skills as an impeccable and great emcee on the mic. Locally, he is inspired by GNL Zamba, Big Trill and Ruyonga.
