Uganda Performing Rights Society (UPRS) will hold its Annual General Meeting for the year 2022 this Friday 20 January, 2023 at the National Theatre in Kampala.
According to Mr. Semakula Robert Edward, one of the UPRS Board Directors – The meeting in waiting is set to present audited books of accounts for the previous four years.
“For the first time, we will present an audited accounting report for the last four years (2019, 2020, 2021 and 2022) prepared by qualified independent auditors. A soft copy of the report will also be published on the UPRS website for all the members to review and analyze for transparency purpose” he said.
He further invited all members to attend so you can contribute to the discussions towards the growth of the body.
According to the Ms. Nassuna Morrine, the acting Chief Executive Director, UPRS will also announce the dates when royalties to its members will be paid following two years of not paying due to COVID-19 disruptions.
“This AGM is special to us as UPRS management and our members because it will help us to refocus ourselves on growing Uganda’s music after years of hardships. For the past years, we have had issues due to the COVID-19 pandemic that disrupted our revenue base. However, the economy is recovering, and we hope for better performance and higher payout for our members,” she said.
At the same event, UPRS will be launching a new campaign dubbed “Friends of Ugandan Music”, aimed at improving music users’ compliance towards the copyright music license payments which will in turn increase the royalties paid to the right owners.
The last AGM was held on October 29, 2021 and was hugely attended, the same spirit UPRS management bases on to invite all their members in big numbers.
The meeting will run between 9am all through till 2pm.
