What did you hear about village people? If nothing, prepare to be well-informed of their meticulousness by the end of this read. Uganda is full of hustlers hoping for a big break – what we like to call grass to grace stories. In fact, these stories bring the beautiful people of this country together.
But, what about the grace to grass stories? Never heard of those or did you say impossible? Allow me to introduce one of them to you who came full circle. He zoomed from grass to grace but parked at grass again. But what might have happened?
In 2021, rapper Rocky giant heaped blame on Witchcraft for his failure to live in the limelight like other musicians. He claimed his success was a center of envy during his hey days. The “Rafiki” hit singer said,
‘’Many musicians engage in witchcraft; they don’t want to see others succeed. I lost my career because someone sabotaged it with witchcraft.”
Rocky Giant was one of the biggest musicians in Uganda in the early 2000s. The rapper fell from grace to grass and is now living like a pauper who had never been famous and never sure of his next meal. The rapper is also reported to be addicted to drugs and has been in and out of the rehab centers.
Rocky Giant, real names Fred Giriya hails from Westnile born in Central Region. He lost both parents at 6 years making him an Orphan at an early age. He speaks better Luganda than his mother tongue.
He sang “Rafiki” followed by “Gwabaras” which were both ragga and hip hop. “Rafiki” was a very popular song both in Uganda and East Africa at large.
Over the weekend, the “Ngoma Nene” singer appeared in an interview looking mentally unstable as he shared uncoordinated opinions about the music industry.
In the interview, Rocky was heard saying he cannot offer Jose Chameleone a chance to work with him on a music project because he is a faded artist who he saw rise and fall gradually during his sober and prime days.
He went ahead to praise Sheebah Karungi noting that she is a good artist who has stood a test of time and that she is better than most of the female artists.
Rocky Giant in the interview also explained that he birthed several children from different mothers but tasked them never to look for him since he is not well.
He asked the mothers of his children to take good care of them since for him he lost touch with the world and he is looking forward to returning to Arua anytime.
“I lost my family and everything that I owned. At the moment I am alone. All my children’s mothers don’t look for me.
I already got ashamed in the public so wherever I will end up that is where I will be. I don’t have any debts and I don’t owe anybody anything”.
