Hoffein is really a strong man when it comes to lyrics, timing, rhyme and all the rudiments of rap. His amazing song writing ability makes him one of the best young rappers of his generation.
Now residing in Kawempe, hoffein was born and raised in Uganda as kweku Louis Byenkya Agornyo but with Ghanaian roots and his stage name Hoffein was given to him by his childhood friends as he often donned a jersey of one of the football clubs in Germany, FC Hoffenheim.
When asked what inspired him to do hip-hop music, he says that to some of his peers in the game, hip-hop is just rap music to them but to a person like him, its more than that.
“For me it’s a more than just a genre but a culture and just everything to me. The way rappers do the story telling inspired me, and since I have been kinda a sadist since ma mama was called in heaven, I believed I could use hip-hop just to express the pain”. He says.
When asked about rappers whom he look up to, the young MC says that since his childhood he has been a huge fan of GNL Zamba.
“I just loved his (GNL) creativity, his sense of humour, his generosity in turning poems into great hip-hop music” he says.
“During my time at Mengo Primary school, i used to mime his songs like Soda Jinjale and Stoty Ya Luka”, Hoffein says adding that he also looks up to the late 2pac and Nampeera Mulekwa plus Big sam yiga
The buzzing rapper who has a couple of projects still officially unreleased on Friday decided to release his first ever project he titled “Dear Mama” which is in respect of his fallen mother Ms Byenkya and to everyone in this world who has ever lost a mother.
“After her passing, it was the pain I had since childhood and the idea of writing such a song came from that emotional pain which I could bare anymore but rather to find a pen and paper then later taking my sorrows to the studio to pay my respect”, Hoffein says when asked on what inspired him to do “Dear Mama”.
“I found out that Hip-hop could heal me out. I knew that it was the only way I could express my pain since I got no one to bail me out”, he adds.
Dear Mama was produced by Abra Keyz and Mungu Allan Jean-Marrie from Chord Africa studio in Makindye Kampala then Directed by Breezy Beats.
Throughout entertainment, moms have been constant muses, either providing the foundation for a song or propping up the artist who would go on to make it. For every Eminem song lamenting on the trials of dealing with a mother, there are 20 more tracks from artists painstakingly taking the time to detail each and every thing that their mother has done for them.
Hoffein`s emotional bravery and transparency are unprecedented on this song as he bares every part of his soul and psyche in his lyrics. The song gives listeners a license to communicate their sadness, frustrations, traumas, and anxieties with less fear of retribution.
Qoutable lyrics:
It’s 25 to life
Byenkya come back to life
Where am heading is dark
Mama i need some light
Ekyokujukira kiri eazy i do it everyday
Naye okukusubwa kireta heartache that never goes away
