Actor Badru Bashir Kasule, known for his role Ssendijja in the movie “The Forbidden” directed by Samuel Saviour Kizito, passed on December 7, 2022.
Charles Tyaba, a close friend and workmate to the deceased, told Baboon Forest Media that the actor had been suffering from diabetes, but the cause of his death was made private to only family members.
Bashir acted in movies such as Where We Belong, Rich Wisdom, as well as the series Toil and Basajja Kambwe.
He was the head of research and development at the Uganda Film Association and a member of the Screenwriters Guild in Uganda.
Tyaba described Bashir as a supportive and strong pillar for the development of the film industry.
“He was a very supportive hand to this industry and an advocate for the development of film in the country. He was instrumental in the putting up of the Uganda film festivals,” he said.
Before his death, Badru Bashir Kasule was working on six projects and according to Ronald Magezi, one of his close friends and a workmate, Bashir, was working on several movies as an actor, director, and overseer.
“It is so sad that he has not managed to finalise all the projects he had been working on,” he said.
Magezi is not sure that these projects will be finalised because Bashir was at the centre of them all.
He expressed disappointment that very few filmmakers made it to the burial.
“There were very few filmmakers who turned up for the burial. I do not know why, but maybe because he was a Muslim and the burial was rushed. The media never reported about his death and we also communicated late to most of them since we were in shock,” Magezi said.
He also advised that for filmmakers to keep Bashir’s legacy, they should emulate his behaviour and love for the industry.
