The elevation in African story telling is executed right on the Africa Folktales by six African story tellers from six African countries as well . Loukman Ali from Uganda , Korede Azez from Nigeria , Voline Ogutu from Kenya , Katope Walt from Tanzania .
The re told six African stories got unveiled on 29th March 2023 in partnership with United Nations Educational , scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO ) as well as Netflix as short films .This us to proudly support the germination of young story tellers.
Tendeka Matatu Netflix’s director of film in Africa ,“ we are finally excited to bring this anthology of short films created by the next generation of story tellers to Netflix members around the world . This initiative is a testament to our ongoing efforts to strength the pipeline of African story telling and to include voices from under represented communities . We are grateful to our partners at UNESCO who walked this journey with us to provide an opportunity to six emerging Africa film makers to create and show case the re imagined folk takes in their own languages so that more people see their lives reflected on screen.”

Anyango and the ogre by Valine Oguto from Kenya .It’s a fantasy short film in Swahili with Trevor , Jones Kamau and Sarah . Otis has a responsibility to protect his siblings from a monster . It’s produced by Alfajir .
Katera of the punishment Island by Loukman Ali from the Pearl of Africa Uganda . A woman saddened by the loss of her baby and her revenge plan on the man who made her go through this pain .It’s in Runyankole language and English , directed by Loukman Ali from loukout films casting Wawuyi JR , Kababiito Tracy .
Zabin Halima by Korede Azeez from Nigeria . A fantasy sci-fi short film of a young girl trying to escape an arranged marriage from Fulani village , it’s in Hausa language directed by Korede Azeez and produced by Kenneth Gyang casting Habib Ummi Mohammad.
Katope by Walt Magenyi Corey from Tanzania . A young girl puts her life on the line to rescue her community from the drought that is eating them up . It’s a fantasy drama in Swahili casting Jene Mahenyea , Mwalimu , Rahele Matete and directed by Petrus Van Staden , Rebecca Mzengi. Not only are these tales being imagined but also being brought back to life by these phenomenal creatives.
