Love is a well documented topic in hip-hop. It’s the essence of soul music which has heavily influenced rap and hip-hop, with many modern hits taking cues from soul classics. And over the years, the theme of love has helped rappers to crossover into the mainstream and reach radio friendly audiences.

Hip-hop – which believe it or not turned 50 this year — has always blossomed from love. It may seem corny to the average hip-hop head, but in an industry based on stealing the hearts of listeners, love is a universal language. If you’re a love hater, here is me reviewing for you “Wololo” by sensational rapper GNL Zamba with songtress Juliana Kanyomozi and by the end of this article, you will have the same fill as mine as to why im considering it as the best Ugandan Hip-hop love song of all times.

‘Wololo’ is a song that was produced by two of the most popular Ugandan artists to ever live in Uganda was released and it wasn’t a disappointed. A mix of Zamba’s hip-hop rap verses and Juliana’s seductive afro vocals to stir up this masterpiece that sampled “Woololo Nfunda N’omubi” by the Afrigo Band that was first got produced in the 1980’s.

‘Wololo ’ was released near the beginning of 2016 on GNL Zamba’s Uganda Yaffe( The Renaissance) and since then has stormed the download charts, along with the music video and many critics labeled it “Collaboration of the decade”whose video is yet to be shot, something that has hassled fans of the two artists.

“Good scense of humor
Ono asesa n’okusinga Ekanya
Mathimatically figure equals biri times nya
Beauty ye eringa omusana ogwaka ng’enkuba etonya
Engo ezaala, ndi mukintu nga enjuki ku nector
Nafunye protector
Akabina shape ya protractor
Amaso ku projector
Eno bwebela oscar yenze actor”, GNL raps on the first verse.

Wololo is very diverse in the way it was produced with the back beat showing a high similarity to afro-rap music that compliments Zamba’s raps and Juliana’s vocals and although the tempo of this song is quite slow and it has a more chilled out feel to it, one could still get up and groove to it any day and it will never get boring!

“Nga world trade centre
Nze namugwa ka flat
Love bw’ekibela kiggo
Ono wamala nenya enkona
Ekisawe kya ba player nakivamu nga maradona
Anti awayo olwatuka nga Zamba afuna ekyana
Eyali mama we
Kati tumuyita muka mwana”, GNL partly raps on the second verse.

Juliana is the voice of her generation and nothing and nobody will ever have a more classic R&B meets rap track than she does on Wololo. She embodies melodic vocals and possesses the ability to reach shallow notes while still sounding sensational hitting the high notes.

Rappers who can balance vulnerability with machismo are undeniable chart-toppers and GNL knows as well as anyone the importance of building a legacy. Throughout a career spanning nearly 15 years, the legendary MC has inspired generations through his storytelling, evocative lyricism and introspective songs. He makes music for the builders, the dreamers and the believers, providing the soundtrack to power us to greater heights.

Through his music, Zamba shares sage advice on how to navigate life and leave something for those coming up after us but on Wololo with the iconic Juliana, he went a bit very far in painting for us a vivid picture of him falling for someone he had just met.

“Yalibade nze nawe singa luga flow mulimu Shakespeare
Ndi mumpi naye onyimusa ne nkwata ku chandallia
Omutima ogukubisa sama ng’enkoko Y’eWandegaya
Oooh dear obuwomi n’ebwenuna choclate
I cant compare
Mbade ninda olunaku gwe nange lwetulifuka pair
Nkutigise ndage abakazi abalala nti oli superior”, he partly raps on the third verse.
