Rapper, producer and spoken word artist, Mugoda Gordons Good aka Wake the Poet has a video for his song ‘Magero’ featuring Pyro Beatboy. Known for incorporating his cultural Bagwere in his musical concepts, he does this in a blend of his mother tongue while the video locations are his home village of Boliso 1 cell, Pallisa Town, Eastern Uganda. Popularly known as Mwana Weika (homeboy), Wake has been doing gospel rap for about 7 years now.
In this song, the rapper steps forward with a note of thanksgiving and praise to the Most High for keeping him astride the small and big dangers. He is convinced that he’s the miracle anyone should talk about. It is a prayer of reassurance, encouragement, snake-trampling with the help of the Almighty. The groovy chorus has Wake chanting ‘magero’ (I’m a miracle) like he really means every syllable in the word.
The video starts with a child at his bedside in a candle-lit room, taking a bible verse prayer from Psalms 91:9-13. He then enters a local Christian church service in session amid which the priest opens the stage for testimonies and confessions. The rapper then steps forward onto the pulpit platform and he’s handed the mic.
The second verse he then delivers to the audience in form of a sermon. He narrates his escape through the poverty, hopelessness in his place to the person he is currently. The congregation stays attentive while he raps about all the tough situations that he has only managed to circumvent because God has always been with him. At the end of the video, the rapper has a reflective bible conversion with presumably Joyce Turyanabo, his beloved grandmother.
The video was shot and edited by Fresh Director from babana basha Filmz while the song was produced by both Baru and Wake himself.
